Irrigation Servicing
Keep your irrigation system working at its best
A well-designed irrigation system should make looking after your lawns and gardens easier — but like any other mechanical system, it needs occasional checking and maintenance to keep performing properly.
Over time, sprinklers can become blocked or damaged, dripperline can be affected by changes in planting, controllers can be left with outdated programmes, and pumps, filters, valves and other components can develop problems. Sometimes the system still turns on, but isn't watering where or when it should.
At WTS we can inspect and service your existing irrigation system to help you understand what you have, identify problems and make sure your irrigation is ready for the season ahead.
Whether you've just moved into a property with an irrigation system, haven't used your system for several years, are experiencing problems, or simply want to make sure your irrigation is performing properly, we have servicing options to suit.
Our irrigation servicing ranges from a straightforward Check & Tune-Up through to detailed Performance & Coverage Audits and comprehensive system assessments. We can also create digital maps of existing irrigation systems, making future maintenance, repairs and upgrades easier.
ā
From a simple check to a complete system assessment
-
Not sure how your irrigation works? We can help identify the controller, zones, pumps and other components and explain what you've
-
inherited.
-
Irrigation not working? We'll test the system, identify obvious problems and recommend repairs or replacement components.
-
System working but not performing as it should? We can assess sprinkler coverage, dripperline, lawn moisture and potential gaps in irrigation.
-
Want the complete picture? Our Comprehensive Irrigation Audit provides a more detailed assessment of the system and opportunities to improve its performance.
-
Need a record of what's underground? We can create a digital site map and progressively map your existing irrigation system.
Get your irrigation ready for spring and summer
The best time to discover a blocked sprinkler, failed valve or programming problem is before your garden is relying on the irrigation system through the hot, dry months.
Our servicing options are designed to help you identify problems early, make informed decisions about repairs and upgrades, and get the best performance from the irrigation system you already have.
Based in Cambridge, servicing irrigation systems throughout the Central North Island and supplying NZ Wide.

Irrigation Check & Tune-Up
From $145.00*
Get your irrigation ready for spring and summer
Your irrigation system may have been sitting unused over winter, or perhaps it turns on but isn't working quite as it should.
ā
Our Irrigation Check & Tune-Up is a practical service designed to check that your existing irrigation system is operating correctly and identify any obvious problems before the warmer weather arrives.
ā
It is suitable for systems that haven't been used for a while, systems that aren't working properly, or homeowners who simply want peace of mind that their irrigation is ready for the season ahead.
ā
What we check
We'll inspect and run to test the key components of your existing irrigation system, including:ā
-
Irrigation controller and programmed settings
-
Irrigation stations/zones
-
Pumps, boosters and filters dedicated to irrigation
-
Rain sensors
-
Flow or water meters where fitted
-
Valves and associated hardware
-
Sprinklers and rotors
-
Dripperline
-
Obvious leaks or damaged irrigation components
We'll run the irrigation system and check that the stations operate correctly.
We'll also carry out a practical walk-over of the system to check that:
-
Sprinklers and rotors are operating and popping up correctly
-
Rotors are rotating
-
Sprinklers are providing water
-
Dripperline is delivering water
-
There are no obvious leaks
-
There are no obvious damaged or disconnected components
-
Each irrigation zone appears to be operating
What happens after the check?
We'll provide a report outlining what we've found.
If we identify repairs, replacement components or potential upgrades, we'll provide recommendations and pricing so you can decide what you'd like to do next.
The Check & Tune-Up is intended as an operational check, rather than a detailed assessment of irrigation coverage or water distribution.
If you'd like us to investigate whether your system is actually watering your lawns and gardens effectively, our Irrigation Performance & Coverage Audit provides a more detailed assessment.
Who is this service for?
This service is ideal if:
-
Your irrigation hasn't been used for a while

Irrigation Performance & Coverage Audit
From $325.00*
Is your irrigation watering your garden properly?
Your irrigation system can be turning on and appearing to work, while still failing to deliver water where it is needed.
ā
Sprinklers can become blocked, buried or obstructed by plants. Rotors can stop rotating correctly. Garden beds can expand beyond their original irrigation coverage, and changes to planting or landscaping can leave areas without adequate irrigation.
ā
Our Irrigation Performance & Coverage Audit goes beyond checking whether your system turns on. We look at how the irrigation is actually performing across your lawns and gardens and identify areas where coverage or watering could be improved.
What we check
The Performance & Coverage Audit includes the operational checks carried out as part of our Irrigation Check & Tune-Up, including:
-
Irrigation controller and programmed settings
-
Irrigation stations/zones
-
Pumps, boosters and filters dedicated to irrigation
-
Rain sensors
-
Flow or water meters where fitted
-
Valves and associated hardware
-
Sprinklers and rotors
-
Dripperline
-
Obvious leaks or damage
We then take the assessment further.
Sprinkler and rotor coverage
We'll run the irrigation and assess whether sprinklers and rotors appear to be providing the coverage expected.
We'll look for:
-
Incorrect sprinkler rotation
-
Incorrect spray arcs
-
Blocked or damaged nozzles
-
Sprinklers that are not popping up properly
-
Sprinklers buried beneath turf
-
Sprinklers obstructed by plants, hedges or landscaping
-
Missing sprinklers
-
Areas receiving little or no irrigation
-
Areas that appear to be receiving excessive irrigation
A sprinkler can be operating normally but still fail to water the intended area, so looking at coverage is an important part of understanding system performance.
Garden and dripperline coverage
We'll consider the irrigation coverage across the garden and identify obvious gaps or areas that may no longer be appropriately irrigated.
Where plans are available, we'll use them to help understand the original system design. Where plans aren't available, we'll work with the homeowner's knowledge of the system and what we can observe onsite.
For dripperline systems, we'll look for obvious issues such as:
-
Missing or disconnected sections
-
Blocked areas
-
Poorly positioned dripperline
-
Areas of planting that appear to have inadequate irrigation
-
Planting that has expanded beyond the original irrigation layout
What happens after the audit?
We'll provide a report outlining our findings and recommendations.
This may include:
-
Repairs required
-
Components needing replacement
-
Irrigation coverage improvements
-
Changes to sprinkler or rotor layout
-
Dripperline improvements
-
Controller or programming recommendations
-
Pump or pressure-related issues
-
Opportunities to improve overall system performance
Where appropriate, we'll provide pricing for the recommended repairs, upgrades or other work.

Comprehensive Irrigation Audit
From $525.00*
A complete check-up for your existing irrigation system
For larger properties, established gardens and more complex irrigation systems, a quick operational check may not provide enough information.
Our Comprehensive Irrigation Audit is designed for customers who want a much more thorough assessment of their existing irrigation system — from the controller and pumps through to sprinklers, dripperline, coverage and lawn moisture.
It brings together the checks included in our Irrigation Check & Tune-Up and Irrigation Performance & Coverage Audit, with additional time onsite to assess the overall system and identify opportunities for improvement.
What we assess
We'll work through the irrigation system systematically, including:
-
Irrigation controllers
-
Programmes and controller settings
-
Irrigation stations/zones
-
Valves and valve operation
-
Pumps and boosters
-
Filters
-
Rain sensors
-
Flow and water meters where fitted
-
Sprinklers and rotors
-
Dripperline
-
Associated pipework and visible components
-
Obvious leaks or damage
Controller and programming
We'll review the controller and its current settings, including:
-
Start times
-
Run times
-
Station programming
-
Seasonal settings
-
Available watering schedules
-
Other relevant controller parameters
We'll consider whether the current programming appears appropriate for the system and the areas being irrigated.
Where improvements are appropriate, we'll make recommendations.
ā
System operation
We'll run the irrigation system through its stations to assess how the system operates.
This allows us to identify issues that may not be apparent when the system is simply viewed while switched off.
We'll check for:
-
Stations that fail to operate
-
Valves that are not operating correctly
-
Pump or booster issues
-
Pressure-related problems
-
Sprinklers or rotors not operating correctly
-
Dripperline issues

-
Poor pop-up operation
-
Buried sprinkler heads
-
Obstructed sprinklers
-
Missing sprinklers
-
Areas without adequate apparent coverage
-
Irrigation affected by mature planting or landscaping
Garden and irrigation coverage
As part of the assessment, we'll consider whether the existing irrigation continues to suit the current garden.
Gardens change over time.
Plants grow, hedges get wider, new garden beds are added, lawns change shape and landscaping can alter the way water needs to be distributed.
We'll identify obvious areas where the original irrigation design may no longer match the current landscape.
Moisture assessment
Where appropriate, we take lawn moisture readings to investigate irrigation uniformity and help identify areas where watering may be inconsistent.
This can be particularly useful for larger lawns or properties where the customer is experiencing unexplained dry or stressed areas.
Overall system assessment
The Comprehensive Audit also provides an opportunity to consider the irrigation system as a whole.
We'll look at whether the existing system appears appropriately configured for its intended use and identify practical opportunities for:
-
Improving irrigation coverage
-
Repairing damaged components
-
Replacing ageing equipment
-
Improving controller programming
-
Upgrading pumps or associated equipment
-
Improving filtration
-
Updating sprinkler or dripperline coverage
-
Adapting irrigation to changes in the garden
-
Improving general system performance

Irrigation System Mapping
From $1100.00*
Know where everything is with a digital map of your irrigation system
A well-designed irrigation system is much easier to maintain, repair and modify when you know exactly where everything is.
But many existing irrigation systems don't have a current plan — particularly older systems, systems installed by previous owners, or properties where the garden has changed over time.
Our Irrigation System Mapping service creates a digital site map that provides a foundation for understanding and managing your property.
What we do
We'll survey the property using Moasure and via drone, as required to transfer the site information into Irrisketch to create a digital irrigation site plan.
The base mapping service includes:
-
Onsite measurement
-
Mapping the relevant property and garden areas
-
Buildings and significant site features
-
Creation of a digital site map
-
Transfer of the information into Irrisketch
The aim is to create an accurate base plan that can be used for future irrigation maintenance, upgrades or design work.
What isn't included in the base mapping price?
The standard mapping service does not include identifying and plotting every irrigation component.
This is because existing irrigation systems can be complex and components may be underground, concealed by planting or difficult to identify without running and investigating the system.
Individual irrigation components can be added as they are identified.
This may include:
-
Sprinklers
-
Rotors
-
Dripperline
-
Valves
-
Irrigation stations
-
Controller locations
-
Pumps
-
Filters
-
Other relevant irrigation equipment
This additional work can be carried out at the same time as the mapping project or as part of a separate irrigation assessment.
Adding your irrigation system to the map
Once the base site plan has been created, we can progressively identify and add irrigation components as we learn the system.
Additional irrigation system identification and mapping is charged at:
$95 per hour
This means you can choose how much detail you need.
For example, you may simply want a site map to use for future work, or you may want a more detailed record showing the locations of your irrigation stations, valves, sprinklers and other components.
Why have your irrigation mapped?
A digital irrigation map can be particularly useful when:
-
You don't have the original irrigation plans
-
A map can provide a permanent record of an existing system.
-
You're taking over a property to understand the irrigation system you've inherited.
-
You are planning upgrades - A clear site plan provides a useful starting point for future irrigation work.
-
Knowing where valves, stations and other components are located can make future servicing much easier.
-
The garden is changing
-
A current map makes it easier to plan extensions or modifications to an existing system.
-
A digital irrigation plan can be retained for future owners, gardeners, property managers or contractors.
From an existing system to a useful digital plan
A property may have irrigation infrastructure that has been installed or modified over many years.
Sometimes the original plans no longer reflect what is actually onsite.
By measuring the property and progressively identifying the irrigation components, WTS can help create a current digital record of the system.
This can be particularly valuable for larger homes and lifestyle properties where finding individual components later can be difficult.
ā
Large, complex and commercial properties
Larger properties may require additional onsite time depending on:
-
Property size
-
Number of irrigation areas
-
Complexity of the irrigation system
-
Number of irrigation components
-
Accessibility
-
Amount of existing system information available
These projects can be discussed and quoted individually where required.
What this service doesn't include
The base Irrigation System Mapping service does not include:
-
Irrigation design
-
Sprinkler placement design
-
Irrigation station design
-
Irrigation system redesign
-
Repairs
-
Replacement equipment
-
Installation work
-
Hydraulic analysis
Where required, these services can be provided separately.
Mapping and irrigation assessment can work together
If you're unsure how your existing system works and also need a map, we can combine the mapping process with an Irrigation Check & Tune-Up, Performance & Coverage Audit or Comprehensive Irrigation Audit.
This can be an efficient way to build an accurate understanding of an existing system while also assessing its condition and performance.
